Service Description

Session Dates: 6/15/26 @ 12 pm 6/22/26 @ 12 pm 6/29/26 @ 12 pm 7/6/26 @ 12 pm 7/13/26 @ 12 pm Perfect for beginners and developing potters, this 5-week course teaches the foundations of wheel throwing from clay preparation to glazing finished work. Students will learn essential wheel techniques, trimming, altering, decorating, and glazing while creating functional pottery pieces throughout the course. Week 1 – Wheel Basics & First Pots Learn studio safety, proper wheel operation, clay preparation, centering, and the fundamentals of wheel throwing. Students will create small pots while practicing opening, pulling walls, and shaping forms. Class also covers proper studio clean-up and clay handling procedures. Week 2 – Cylinders, Trimming & Altering Focus on throwing cylinders and building consistency in height and wall thickness. Learn trimming techniques to create clean bases and balanced forms. Students will also explore carving, altering, and shaping both fresh and leather-hard pieces for added creativity and refinement. Week 3 – Berry Bowls, Handles & Surface Decoration Create a functional berry bowl while learning more advanced shaping techniques. Instruction includes pulling and attaching handles as well as slip trailing for decorative surface design and texture. Week 4 – Finishing Functional Forms Students will add handles to leather-hard work, finish and refine berry bowls by creating drainage holes, and throw a spoon rest. Emphasis is placed on clean construction, functional design, and preparing pieces for firing. Week 5 – Glazing & Finishing Techniques Complete all finished work with instruction on glazing fundamentals, including proper use of underglaze and glaze, brush glazing versus dip glazing, layering techniques, and specialty finishes such as frozen pond effects. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of how surface finishes transform ceramic work. ***Don't forget: Members get 10% off all classes! Ask your studio tech for details.***


Cancellation Policy

General Policy We value your time and ours! Because our classes and studio space are limited, we ask that all cancellations and rescheduling requests follow the guidelines below. This helps us keep classes full and fair to all participants. Parties Birthday Party Policy: Full payment is required to reserve your party and all parties are non-refundable; no refunds or credits are given for no-shows or late arrivals. At least one adult must be present at all times—this is not a drop-off event. Outside food and drinks are welcome; please bring your own plates, cups, utensils, and serving items, and dispose of all food, decorations, and trash at the end of the party. Pottery projects are handbuilt (no pottery wheel) and will be fired after the party; while every effort is made, successful firing is not guaranteed and no refunds Classes & Workshops Cancellations made 7 or more days before the start date will receive a full refund or may be rescheduled at no cost. Cancellations made 3–6 days before the start date are eligible for studio credit only (no cash refund). Cancellations made less than 12 hours before the start of class, or no-shows, will forfeit the full amount. Once a class series has started, missed sessions cannot be refunded or rescheduled. Memberships Memberships may be canceled at any time, but must be done at least 7 days before the next billing date to avoid being charged for the next month. Partial months are not prorated or refunded once billed. Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable once activated. Private Events & Group Bookings Payment is required at the time of booking to hold your date. Cancellations made 14 or more days in advance will receive a full refund of the deposit. Cancellations made 2 days in advance will receive studio credit for the deposit amount. No refunds for attendance no-shows on the day of event. Rescheduling We understand life happens! If you need to reschedule: Please contact us at least 72 hours in advance. Rescheduling is subject to class availability. Less than 12 hours’ notice will be treated as a cancellation. Studio Credit Studio credits can be used toward future classes, workshops, or memberships and expire after 6 months from the issue date. Cancellations by the Studio If Iris & Stone Pottery Studio must cancel a class or event due to low enrollment, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances, you will receive the option of a full refund or studio credit.
